Resetting the BestNotes Client

Sometimes issues arise on a single machine that require a fresh start with the BestNotes Client.  This can be done without uninstalling/reinstalling the Client.

Windows

Before beginning, close BestNotes.

  Sometimes BestNotes stays running after closing the main window. 

To ensure that it is closed properly:
  1. Right-click on an empty spot on your taskbar
  2. Select the 'Task Manager' menu item
  3. Click the 'Processes' tab at the top of the Task Manager dialog.
  4. Select 'bestnotes.exe' from the list of processes if it exists (this may require scrolling down.)
  5. Click 'End Task'


To clear the current BestNotes profile:
  1. Click Start or the Windows Vista/7 Circle Flag button at the bottom-left of the taskbar.
  2. Click Run (Vista/Windows 7 users should use the search box provided).
  3. Type %appdata% in the box provided without the quotes.
  4. Locate and Delete the GHA5 folder.
  5. Re-start BestNotes.

Mac OS X

  1. Close BestNotes.
  2. Make sure that it does not have the blue dot under it.
  3. Minimize or close all other programs.
  4. Open Finder.
  5. Hold Option(alt) on your keyboard then click Go in the finder bar. (The default behavior of Lion is to hide your user Library folder. Go To Step 7)
  6. (Skip if using Lion or greater) - Click on Home.
  7. Click on Library
  8. Click Application Support.
  9. Delete the GHA5 and/or BestNotes CRM folder.
  10. Restart your computer and run BestNotes.
When restarting BestNotes, a box will prompt the user to reenter the server name and site ID.





Reset a Forgotten Password

System Administrators

To reset a password:
  1. Click on Settings
  2. Click on Users
  3. Click on the person's name
  4. Enter a New Password
  5. Click on Save

Users

Make sure to change your password after the first login.

Change Default Browser


    Mac OS X

    Choosing a default web browser other than Safari (We recommend keeping Safari as the default browser when using BestNotes)
    1. Open Safari (/Applications)
    2. From the Safari menu, choose Preferences
    3. Click the General button
    4. Choose a different browser from the Default Web Browser pop-up menu
    5. If more information is needed, please see the Apple Support page here

      After changing the default application, do not delete Safari or Mail, even if there are no plans to use them. They will be needed if you wish to change the default settings in the future.

    Not able to Download files


    Mac OS X

    When you download a file from BestNotes if you are receiving an error similar to this "/Users/bestnotes/Desktop/82MnHHPh.exe.part could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder..." use the following steps
    1. Close BestNotes.
    2. Open Finder.
    3. From the Finder menu, choose GO.
    4. At the bottom of the list select Go To Folder.
    5. Type "~/Library/Preferences/" (without the quotes)
    6. Find the "com.apple.internetconfig.plist" file and delete it
    7. Close Finder
    8. Open BestNotes

    You will now be able to download files in BestNotes again.
